Fulcrum Completes Merrimack Medical Center
April 30, 2009
Fulcrum recently completed construction of the new Merrimack Medical Center for Southern NH Medical Center. The 28,000sf project is home to practices in pediatrics, ob/gyn and family medicine as well as physical therapy. In addition, the Medical Center offers imaging and lab services on site, saving patients a trip to the main campus in Nashua. A formal ribbon cutting was held on April 3. The building started life as a Newicks Seafood restaurant, and had to be stripped to the structure to accommodate the substantial changes necessary to convert it to a state of the art medical center.
The project design includes many high performance and sustainable features including fluid applied air barriers, R-30 wall insulation, R-48 roof insulation, high efficiency lighting with daylight and motion controls and a high efficiency HVAC system and controls. Thermal imaging performed by Fulcrum during construction served to prove out the integrity of the envelope and helped identify problems before it was too late to correct them. Following construction, Fulcrum performed a month of temperature, humidity and CO2 monitoring after occupancy to verify all systems were performing as designed, and will monitor energy consumption for the next year to gauge the overall efficiency of the building.
Design services were provided by Dennis Mires Architects, led by Stephen Peach. Gary Manoogian served as Project Manager for Fulcrum, with Mike Cullinane as Superintendent. Major subcontractors on the project included Gate City Electric, Oliver Mechanical, JJ Ciampa Plumbing, MetroSwift Fire Protection, Metro Walls, Paul White Tile and Northeastern Architectural Millwork.
